Meet the Team: Sarah Fountain

We want to introduce you to the incredible women that make up our SBSK team. Our Site Coordinators are the heart behind what we do and we wouldn’t be able to encourage hearts and inspire minds without them leading the way.

This week, we’re spotlighting Sarah Fountain, our Site Coordinator at Webb Primary! Take it away, Sarah!

I was born in Florida but have been in Austin since I was 12! Upon graduating from the University of Texas, I worked for another mentoring program for a year before coming to Side by Side Kids.

I wanted to work at Side by Side Kids because I’m super passionate about the kids that we serve and desired to help them grow into all that God has created them to be. Side by Side Kids is so unique because we are all about sharing the gospel and helping our kids know Jesus. Also, a lot of other organizations that aim at relational ministry with kids are a once a week program while we get see our kids four days a week, allowing for more consistency and deeper investment.

I love all of the different relationships I get to build at Side by Side Kids. The team we work with is awesome - gospel-centered, supportive, and prayerful are just a few words that come to mind when I think of them. I also love the community we serve - getting to build relationships with kids and families, praying for them, and dreaming big things with them is such a blessing.

The kids are just fun. They have me laughing every day and they have so much love to give. I've made plenty of fun memories with my students since I started working at Webb, but here’s my favorite one:

One day a first grader was super upset and angry because he had to come see me due to his behavior during program. After talking with him, he asked why his behavior wasn’t okay and why there were consequences to his actions. He calmed down as I explained to him that I love him very much, care about him a lot and want him to get the most out of SBSK. I informed him that this is why we have the rules that we do, and why he has to follow them. He then starts crying. I asked him why he’s crying and he says through his tears, “because I love you too!”

That’s why we do what we do. The simple consistency and boundaries paired with communication that the children are truly loved and valued touches their hearts and will hopefully change their lives.

There’s so much to look forward to as the year goes on, but I’m most excited about seeing progress in my kids and my staff. I cant wait to see them grow and learn more about their identity in Christ and live into that!

Will you join Sarah in serving our Side by Side Kids students with a Back to School donation today? We count on contributions like yours to continue running a high quality program and stay consistent in the lives of our kids. By giving to this ministry, you are making an eternal impact.
